River of News iPad RSS App Updated

River of News

River of News, the excellent RSS app for the iPad, has been updated again this weekend – to Version 1.6. Here’s the change list for this latest update:

✭ Press the couch icon or two-finger tap an article to convert it to Readability view. This works even for feeds with partial text!
✭ New sharing services Readability and Diigo.
✭ New preferences in the app. Choose your font, change title sizes and be sure to try out the gestures.
✭ Bugs were harmed in the production of this release.

The easy access to Readability view should be a popular new feature. My favorite new feature is the gestures though. I’ve assigned a double-tap to star an item and a two-finger tap to keep an item unread, and I’ll likely assign more of the available gestures soon. I’d love to see options to assign a gesture to ‘Send to Instapaper / Pocket’ or similar apps.

Update: My bad. The developer of River of News has just pointed out to me that you absolutely can assign a gesture to send an article to Instapaper, Pocket and a number of other good services. Very nice.

River of News has been one of my favorite RSS apps for the iPad for a long time. It’s great to see it get another useful update.

Here’s an App Store link for River of News; it’s priced at $2.99.
