Siri to Get New Voice Options in iOS 7.1, Beta Reveals New Updates Coming Soon

SiriApple is currently in the process of finalizing a big update to its mobile operating system. According to the release notes for the fifth beta version of iOS 7.1, Siri will get a more natural voice in a handful of countries. Plus, the software update will include bug fixes, a minimal user interface property for mobile Safari, and more.

According to MacRumors, beta 5 was just released this morning to registered developers. The build is available as an over-the-air update or through Apple’s developer center website.

From the release notes, iOS 7.1 beta 5 includes a natural-sounding voice for English (Australia), English (United Kingdom), Japanese, and Chinese (Mandarin – China). The update comes with a “compact” version of Siri that can be expanded to the natural-sounding voice after the update. If you change languages or gender, you’ll have to be sure to plug your device in to update the natural voice again.

From a quick check on my iPad, Siri English (United States) sounds significantly better than Siri English (Australia), so it’s good that this update will give the iOS personally assistant some fluctuation.

In addition to the more natural voice, iOS 7.1 will include improvements to mobile Safari’s user interface. The native keyboard has been redesigned with changes to the shift and caps lock keys. Wallpaper options have also been changed. Maybe Apple will finally fix the issue with custom wallpaper not fitting properly on the screen.
