New analyst predictions suggest that Touch ID is definitely coming to the next generation of iOS devices. We’ve been hearing the rumor for months now, but KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is adamant that we will see the security feature this fall.
In a note to investors, Kuo wrote that supply shipments are ramping up the Touch ID sensors in preparation of installation of the fall launch of the next generation of iPhone, iPad, and iPad mini. According to Kuo:
“Apple’s Touch ID module should see shipments soar 233{813a954d5e225a1509f22204ece89c855080ce25555f20805f61bed63cbfde3b} in 2014. We believe every new iOS device launched this year will be equipped with Touch ID, including 4.7” and 5.5” new iPhone 6, iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 2 with Retina display. Considering shipments of new products and iPhone 5S sales last longer than in 2013, we forecast unit sales of the fingerprint sensor module to grow 233{813a954d5e225a1509f22204ece89c855080ce25555f20805f61bed63cbfde3b} to 120mn for 2014.”
In April, Kuo relayed information similar to above, but included speculation that the next generation iPad Air would launch in early 2014 instead of the traditional fall launch. He also claimed Apple’s iOS devices would be outfitted with an A8 processor chip and 8MP resolution camera.
Apple will be holding a keynote address on June 2 at 10:00 a.m. PT during the Worldwide Developer Conference. Traditionally, the company demonstrates new operating system features and Mac updates. It is rumored that Apple will also announce the next generation of Apple TV, as well as the iWatch. If Kuo’s prediction is correct about the next generation tablet launching in early 2014, the iPad Air 2 will most likely be unveiled as well.
