The presidential election season is in full swing, with the candidates vying for your approval this November. But if you’re quickly growing tired of the back-and-forth campaign ads and serious subjects at hand, VOTE!!! The Game offers some comic relief. Unfortunately, the relief is short-lived; the game’s nothing more than a quick novelty gag, hardly worth the space it takes up on an iOS device.
VOTE!!! places an Election 2012 skin over melee battles of Chair Entertainment’s own big iOS title, Infinity Blade. After selecting either Barack Obama or Mitt Romney, you’ll fight the other candidate for about a minute. The upgradeable weaponry and armor of Infinity Blade are replaced with silly stock weapons and costumes, available for purchase with coins. Always wanted to beat a candidate with a rubber chicken? Now’s your chance.
In-game currency is earned through battles, or there’s always the in-app purchase of “stacks” of coins. Strangely, the pop-up that asks to confirm your purchase of a stack for $0.99 doesn’t tell you how many coins you’ll actually receive. And frankly, there’s little incentive to find out. While the basic parry, dodge, and block actions of Infinity Blade are present, you really only need one of them. Blocks are unlimited, so it’s possible to just hold the center button the entire match – and win. At its best, VOTE!!! is goofy app to show friends. At its worst, it’s a glorified web banner-ad game.
After the fight — well, that’s really about it. Battles are set in three different locations: the oval office, the White House lawn, and a debate stage. Winning as either candidate adds “votes” to his respective tally amongst all players, though the game does serve one notable purpose: it features a prominent link to the Rock The Vote registration site, which is a cool way to potentially increase young voter turnout.
The bottom line. Good for a few quick laughs and maybe a registration card, VOTE!!! is barely worth your time.
