Whether you want to prepare for inevitable power outages or charge an iPad more sustainably, WakaWaka Power, an approved Kickstarter project, offers tablet and smart phone owners a way to keep a device charged using only the power of the sun. The project is so popular on Kickstarter that it has already hit its first stretch goal, enabling increase from 2200 mAh battery capacity to 2750 mAh capacity.
WakaWaka Power is a solar power station and light that will charge any iDevice. It is available in its signature shade or sunny yellow or black. The device has a life expectancy of 10 years, which is, admittedly longer than most users keep either a tablet or a smart phone.
For the detail-oriented among you, here is a rundown of WakaWaka’s specs:
Even though all 1,000 of the early bird pledges are filled, interested backers can still pledge to receive a WakaWaka Power for $59.00, or splurge and get a personalized version for $99.
For every Kickstarter pledge WakaWaka’s creator will donate one WakaWaka 1.0 (with light only) to Haiti, where 1.2 million residents are still without electricity, and depend on toxic, and dangerous kerosene lamps for light. Pledging to the WakaWaka Power project allows the backer to illuminate a Haitian’s home while also providing a dependable, sustainable way to charge an iPad, iPhone, or other mobile device. It’s a win-win.
