Now that iOS 7 has been downloaded a record number of time in its short existence, iPad owners who thought they knew everything about their device are feeling around in the dark. Control Center is one of Apple’s brand new features available on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. It makes it possible for you to access some of your most important features, even from the lock screen.
Go ahead and try it. Wake up your iPad by tapping the Home button. Then, don’t unlock your screen, but drag your finger upward from the bottom bezel.
Control Center lets you play, pause, fast-forward, and rewind music that is currently playing in your music player. You can also increase or decrease the volume from this instant access panel.
In addition to music controls, you can turn on or off Airplane Mode with one tap, enable or disable Wi-Fi, connect or disconnect Bluetooth, turn on and off the Do Not Disturb feature and mute or unmute your audio. Airplay connect is available in Control Center, too.
Apple also made it easy for you to access your clock and camera without having to open the apps. Plus, you can increase or decrease your screen’s brightness from the panel as well.
Control Center is accessible from the Lock screen, Home screen, and from within any app. Simply drag your finger upward from the bottom bezel. You can turn off Control Center access on the Lock Screen and within apps. In the Settings app, tap Control Center and toggle either access off.
Notification Center is also available from the Lock Screen, Home screen, and within any app. Things have changed a bit for Notification Center from iOS 6 to iOS 7. You can no longer send quick Facebook status updates or Tweets from within Notification Center. Hopefully, Apple will add this feature to Control Center because it is very handy.
You can get information about new mail, missed calls (on iPhone), reminders and to-do lists, and more. Your notifications are not divided into three sections. Today gives you a view of your calendar events, reminders, and a quick glance at tomorrow’s events. You’ll also get a short description of the day’s predicted weather forecast.
The All section shows you a list of messages, reminders, emails, third-party notifications, and more. Here, you can also see what apps were recently updated in the App Store (another new feature in iOS 7: automatic downloads).
In the Missed section, you will see reminders, notifications, and events that you were not near your device to acknowledge. For example, if you received a notification that someone’s birthday party was yesterday, it will show up in the Missed section.
Multitasking has also changed a bit. You can still access your open apps in Multitasking by double-tapping your Home button, but now, instead of touching the icon until the app wiggled and then tapping the red badge icon to close it, you swipe it away.
The first thing you will notice with the updated Multitasking feature is that it now offers a quick glance of the app’s last viewed screen. To select the app, tap the page view. To close the app swipe you finger upward on the app’s page view.
